Waterville is a small recreational city in Southern Minnesota Lakes Region.

Founded in 1855, it has since become a busy community of over 1800 citizens.

Waterville was dubbed the Bullhead Capital of the World due to the 50 area lakes full of the catfish-like creatures. Each summer, Waterville hosts the weekend carnival and celebration of Bullhead Days. Area lakes are also home to a number of other species of game fish, which are caught year-round. The previous Minnesota state record largemouth bass was caught in Waterville in Lake Tetonka.

From the east end of lower Lake Sakatah to the west end of Lake Tetonka there are eleven miles of uninterrupted waterways for canoeists, jet skiers, and other boaters.

History of Waterville

Nine men visited the present site of Waterville in 1855 and decided it would be a good place to start a community. Nestled between Lakes Tetonka and Sakatah (both Sioux Indian names), Wateville was surveyed and platted in 1856.

The lakes and rivers of the area have been very important since the beginning. Fishing has always been big business in Waterville. At one time, lockal fishing provided income to support 25 families!
